European industry: a recovery too weak to hide the gaps
In June 2026, the European aggregate edges higher. Behind that average, national trajectories diverge sharply a signal to translate into capacity, inventory and sourcing decisions.
THE SIGNAL
The European average offers limited reassurance
Industrial production rises 0.6% year on year in the European Union and just 0.1% in the euro area. France falls 0.5%. The signal is not a uniform recovery, but a fragmented industrial environment.
COMPARE COUNTRIES
One European cycle, very different realities
Choose the annual or monthly comparison. Countries are automatically ranked from strongest to weakest.
Belgium: June 2026 data unavailable. Values marked “p” are provisional. EU and euro-area aggregates are estimated (“i”).
FOR THE ORGANISATION
The right use is not standalone forecasting but better planning questions
Capacity
Compare planned load with signals from served markets and test scenarios rather than one volume forecast.
Inventory
Revisit safety stocks when suppliers and customers are concentrated in countries moving in opposite directions.
Sourcing
Monitor geographic dependencies without confusing national variation with an individual supplier’s performance.
If demand depends mainly on France while key suppliers operate in fast-growing countries, does your plan account for that difference in pace?
SOURCE · METHOD · LIMITATIONS
What the data support and what they do not
Eurostat monthly industrial production indicator, total industry (NACE Rev. 2 sections B to D), dataset teiis080. Monthly comparisons use seasonally adjusted series; annual comparisons use calendar-adjusted series.
The supplied dataset covers July 2025 to June 2026. For June 2026, 26 of 27 Member States have annual and monthly changes; Belgium is missing.
Provisional values are retained and flagged, never presented as final. European aggregates from April to June 2026 are estimated. Figures may be revised in later releases.
This indicator describes changes in industrial production volume. It does not measure profitability, order books or an individual company’s position. Observed gaps are descriptive and do not establish causality.
